Last year I couldn’t get my hands on the holiday Laura Mercier Caviar stick set despite the fact that I really wanted it. That’s why, this year when it became available online, I immediately bought it. The one from last year was better, it contained six colors. The eyeshadows in the set this year are only four.
I like the cream eyeshadows in a stick form, you can use them all over the lid, in the crease or as an eyeliner. Another good thing about them is that they last pretty well on my oily eyelids. I’ve tried the ones by KIKO and byTerry. I need to write about them, I have the photos on my computer for over a year now.
Laura Mercier is a brand we don’t have here in Bulgaria, but I quite like it, so I order it online. The individual Caviar Stick Eye Colour eyeshadows cost 29$ each for 1,64 g. of product. The holiday set costs 38$ and contains four shades 1g. each, with the set you get more colors and it’s more affordable. This year the Laura Mercier Christmas collection was one of the most beautiful holiday collections. In the set you get two shimmery shades Rosegold and Amethyst, and two mattes Aubergine and Tuxedo.
Overall, I was a little bit disappointed with the formulation, because the eyeshadows are not very blendable. Once applied, they immediately dry and don’t move any more. I can’t use them in the crease for example. The dark shades can be smoked if you use a synthetic brush, but it’s hard to do anything more complicated than that.
Rosegold is a pearly gold color with a pink undertone. The color is very close to my natural skin tone and I use it as an everyday eyeshadow. Amethyst is probably the most famous shade in this range and it’s a very interesting color - purply-brown. Tuxedo is the standard black. You can use this one as an eyeshadow base for a smoky eye, but again the blending is a problem and I wouldn’t buy it specifically for that purpose. Aubergine is a gorgeous color and I was obsessed with it at the beginning. After I’ve been using it for a while, I just want to buy the same color, but a different formulation.
These eyeshadows last relatively long on my oily eyelids, but the longevity is not very impressive. The shimmery shades perform better and stay put for about five hours, the mattes crease on me around the four hour mark.
The KIKO eyeshadows have a better formula than the Laura Mercier ones and are much cheaper. To be honest, I wouldn’t purchase a Caviar stick eyeshadow in the original size, because there are better alternatives on the market.
